Sámi people
The Sámi are the indigenous people of the far north of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia's Kola Peninsula, a region they call Sápmi. Traditionally they lived by fishing, hunting, trapping and later reindeer herding, and they speak several related Uralic languages. From the Middle Ages they paid tribute and taxes to Norse and later Scandinavian and Russian rulers, and they now have their own parliaments in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
