Karun River

The Karun River is the largest river in Iran, flowing through Khuzestan into the Shatt al-Arab. Under Shapur I, the Band-e Kaisar dam was built across it near Shushtar, reportedly with the labour and engineering skills of Roman prisoners. It illustrates the Sasanian Empire's irrigation works.
