Kharak Singh

d. 1840 · 19th century

Kharak Singh was the eldest son and successor of Ranjit Singh, founder of the Sikh Empire. His brief reign after his father's death in 1839 was dominated by court intrigue, and he died under suspicious circumstances in 1840. His death opened a period of rapid and violent succession that weakened the Lahore Darbar and contributed to the empire's decline.
