Kharavela
Kharavela was a king of Kalinga, in modern Odisha, of the Mahameghavahana dynasty, who probably reigned in the 1st century BCE. He is known from the Hathigumpha inscription at Udayagiri, which records his public works, festivals and campaigns against the Satavahanas, Magadha and kingdoms of the south. A devout Jain, he and his queen sponsored the rock-cut monastic caves of Udayagiri and Khandagiri.
