Kharijites
The Kharijites were an early Islamic sectarian movement that broke away from the caliph Ali after he agreed to arbitration with Muawiya at Siffin in 657. They held that leadership should be determined by piety rather than descent and rejected rulers they judged sinful. A Kharijite assassinated Ali in 661, an event that marked the end of the Rashidun Caliphate.
