King Ping of Zhou

r. 770–720 BCE · 8th century BCE

King Ping of Zhou was the first king of the Eastern Zhou, reigning from 770 to 720 BCE. After the Quanrong sacked Haojing and killed his father King You in 771 BCE, he moved the court east to Luoyi (Luoyang) with the support of Jin, Zheng and Qin. The move began a long decline of royal authority as the regional states grew stronger.
