Kremsmünster Abbey

777 · 8th century

Kremsmünster Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Upper Austria, founded in 777 by Duke Tassilo III of Bavaria to spread Christianity and settlement on the eastern frontier. Its treasury holds the Tassilo Chalice, a gilded copper chalice given by Tassilo and his wife Liutpirga. Rebuilt in Baroque style, the abbey still houses a community of monks and a well-known school.
