Kruševo

Also known as Krushevo

Kruševo is a mountain town in the south-west of North Macedonia, at about 1,350 metres one of the highest towns in the Balkans. A prosperous trading centre of Slav, Aromanian and Greek-oriented Orthodox families under Ottoman rule, it was seized by insurgents in the Ilinden Uprising of 1903, who proclaimed the short-lived Kruševo Republic. The Ilinden memorial, the Makedonium, stands above the town.
