Lacantún River

Also known as Lacantun River

The Lacantún is a river of the Lacandon Forest in eastern Chiapas, Mexico, and a tributary of the Usumacinta. In the 17th century the independent Lacandon Ch'ol Maya had their town of Sakbajlan near its banks, until Spanish expeditions from Guatemala and Chiapas reached it in 1695. Its basin includes the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve.
