Lismore, County Waterford

Lismore is a town in County Waterford, Ireland, on the River Blackwater. Saint Carthach, also called Mochuda, founded a monastery there in the 7th century that became one of the leading centres of learning in early medieval Ireland and the seat of a bishop. The town is dominated by Lismore Castle, and the late medieval manuscript known as the Book of Lismore takes its name from it.
