Eóganacht Chaisil

Also known as Eóganacht of Cashel

Eóganacht Chaisil was the leading branch of the Eóganachta, the dynasty claiming descent from the legendary Eógan Mór that dominated the kingship of Munster from about the 5th century to the 10th. Its kings ruled from the Rock of Cashel in present-day County Tipperary. Older peoples such as the Corcu Loígde and the Déisi Muman became subject kingdoms paying them tribute, until the Dál gCais displaced them in the 10th century.
