Ludwig III of Bavaria
Ludwig III was the last king of Bavaria, reigning from 1913 to 1918. Son of the prince regent Luitpold, he served as regent for his insane cousin Otto from 1912 and then had himself proclaimed king. His support for the German war effort cost him popularity, and when Kurt Eisner proclaimed a republic in Munich in November 1918 he fled, ending more than 700 years of Wittelsbach rule.
