Mac Lochlainn dynasty
The Mac Lochlainn were a branch of the Cenél nEógain that held the kingship of Ailech for much of the 11th and 12th centuries. Domnall Ua Lochlainn and his grandson Muirchertach Mac Lochlainn claimed the high kingship of Ireland. Their rivals the Ua Néill displaced them, finally defeating them at the Battle of Caimeirge in 1241, after which the O'Neills ruled Tír Eógain.
