Maeda clan

The Maeda clan was a Japanese samurai family that ruled the Kaga domain, the largest domain of the Edo period, assessed at over one million koku. Its founder Maeda Toshiie served Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and his son Toshinaga backed Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1600. Watched closely as outside lords, the Maeda spent heavily on culture, making Kanazawa a centre of crafts and learning.
