Maeatae

c. 200 · 3rd century

The Maeatae were a confederation of peoples in Scotland near the Antonine Wall, recorded by Cassius Dio around 200 CE, when they and the Caledonians fought the Romans and provoked the campaigns of Septimius Severus. Their name may survive in Dumyat hill near Stirling, and the Miathi defeated by Áedán mac Gabráin in the sixth century are thought to have been their successors.
