Makino Tadanari

1581–1655 · 17th century

Makino Tadanari was a Japanese daimyo of the early Edo period and the first Makino lord of Nagaoka. The Tokugawa shogunate moved him to Nagaoka in Echigo province in 1618 with about 74,000 koku, and he built the castle town. His descendants governed Nagaoka until the Meiji Restoration, when the domain fought against the new government in the Boshin War.
