Malmedy

Malmedy is a town in the province of Liège in eastern Belgium. It grew around the abbey founded by Saint Remaclus in the 7th century, twin of the abbey at Stavelot, with which it formed an ecclesiastical principality. Given to Prussia in 1815, it was transferred to Belgium in 1920, and in December 1944 American prisoners were massacred near the town by German troops.
