Meroitic script

Also known as Meroitic

The Meroitic script was the writing system of the Kingdom of Kush in its Meroitic period, used from about the second century BCE. It existed in hieroglyphic and cursive forms derived from Egyptian writing. Although its signs can be read, the Meroitic language remains only partly understood, and the script is among the Kushite Empire's distinctive legacies.
