Meskalamdug

c. 2600–2500 BCE · 26th century BCE

Meskalamdug was a ruler of Ur around 2600–2500 BCE, known from finds in the Royal Cemetery excavated by Leonard Woolley. A grave holding his name yielded a celebrated helmet beaten from a single sheet of gold in the form of a wig, now in the Iraq Museum. A seal names him as king, and he may have been the father of Mesannepadda, founder of the First Dynasty of Ur.
