Mesud II

d. c. 1308 · 13th century · Also known as Masud II

Mesud II was the last sultan of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, reigning intermittently from 1284 until his death around 1308. He ruled as a vassal of the Mongol Ilkhanate, which installed and deposed him, and held little real power as Anatolia fragmented among Turkmen beyliks. With his death the sultanate disappeared, leaving the beyliks, among them the Ottomans, to compete for Anatolia.
