Mieszko I
Mieszko I was the first historically documented ruler of Poland, of the Piast dynasty, ruling from around 960 until 992. He married the Bohemian princess Dobrawa and was baptised in 966, an event seen as the beginning of Polish Christianity. He expanded his realm to Pomerania and Silesia, and around 991 placed it under papal protection in the document known as Dagome iudex.
