Mongol invasion of the Levant

1258–1260 · 13th century · Also known as Mongol invasion of 1258–1260

The Mongol invasion of the Levant was the campaign of 1258 to 1260 in which Hulagu's forces, after sacking Baghdad, invaded Syria. They captured Aleppo and Damascus, ending the remaining Ayyubid principalities there. The advance was halted when the Mamluks defeated the Mongols at Ain Jalut in 1260.
