Mongol invasions of Anatolia
The Mongol invasions of Anatolia were the campaigns by which the Mongol Empire subdued the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum in the mid-13th century. A Mongol army under Baiju defeated Sultan Kaykhusraw II at Köse Dağ in 1243, making the sultanate a tributary, and Baiju defeated the Seljuks again in 1256. Anatolia then came under the Ilkhanate, whose decline in the early 14th century allowed Turkish beyliks, among them the Ottomans, to rise.
