Montgenèvre Pass
The Montgenèvre Pass is a high pass in the Cottian Alps linking the upper Durance valley in France with the Susa valley in Italy. In antiquity it carried a main Roman road from Italy into Gaul, through lands ruled by the Alpine king Cottius and his father Donnus. In the Middle Ages it was one of the crossings that gave the margraves of Turin their strategic weight.
