Mount Morgan, Queensland

Mount Morgan is a town in central Queensland, Australia, south-west of Rockhampton, which grew around one of the world's richest gold mines. Gold was found there in the early 1880s, and the Mount Morgan mine produced gold and later copper for about a century, until the 1980s. Its profits helped the investor William Knox D'Arcy finance the oil search in Persia that led to the Anglo-Persian Oil Company.
