Naram-Sin

r. 2254–2218 BCE · 23rd century BCE

Naram-Sin was a king of the Akkadian Empire who reigned from 2254 to 2218 BCE and was the grandson of Sargon. His campaigns brought the empire to its greatest extent, and he claimed divine status, a major innovation in Mesopotamian kingship. His Victory Stele, depicting his triumph over the Lullubi, influenced royal imagery for centuries, and he also fought and made treaties with Elam.
