Nasr I
Nasr I was the Samanid ruler of Transoxiana, governing from Samarkand from 875 until his death in 892. Appointed by the Abbasid caliph, he joined the family's scattered governorships into one realm, but quarrelled with his brother Isma'il ibn Ahmad, governor of Bukhara, who defeated him in 888 yet left him in office. After Nasr's death Isma'il succeeded him and made Bukhara the capital.
