Nekhen

Also known as Hierakonpolis

Nekhen, known to the Greeks as Hierakonpolis, was an ancient city on the west bank of the Nile in southern Upper Egypt and one of the largest settlements of the Predynastic Naqada period. It was the cult centre of the falcon god Horus and a seat of early kings of Upper Egypt. Its temple deposit yielded the Narmer Palette and the Scorpion Macehead, key objects for the study of Egypt's unification.
