Northern Dobruja

Northern Dobruja is the region between the lower Danube and the Black Sea, including the port of Constanța, which forms the south-east of Romania. Ottoman for over four centuries, it was awarded to Romania by the Congress of Berlin in 1878 in exchange for southern Bessarabia, which went to Russia. Southern Dobruja, taken from Bulgaria in 1913, was returned in 1940.
