Oc Eo

1st–7th century · 1st century

Oc Eo is an archaeological site in the Mekong delta of southern Vietnam, believed to be the main port of Funan. Excavations since 1944 have revealed a large town linked by canals, with Roman coins, Indian seals, Chinese mirrors and local jewellery. It shows how Funan connected the trade of the Indian Ocean with the South China Sea in the early centuries CE.
