Occupation of Istanbul
The occupation of Istanbul was the military occupation of the Ottoman capital by Allied forces following the empire's defeat in the First World War, beginning in 1918. It symbolised the collapse of Ottoman sovereignty. Resistance to the occupation and to the post-war partition plans fuelled the Turkish national movement, which ended the Ottoman Empire.
