Odessa

Odessa is a port city on the Black Sea coast of present-day Ukraine, founded under Catherine the Great in the 1790s. It grew rapidly as the main outlet for grain grown on the steppe of southern Russia and Ukraine. Exports through Odessa underpinned the Russian Empire's position as a leading grain exporter.
