Oghuz Turks
The Oghuz Turks were a confederation of Turkic tribes who lived on the steppes north of the Caspian and Aral seas. In the eleventh century the Seljuks, from the Qiniq clan of the Oghuz, built the Seljuk Empire and opened Anatolia to Turkic settlement. Osman I, founder of the Ottoman Empire, was traditionally a chieftain of the Kayı clan of the Oghuz.
