Okazaki

Okazaki is a city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, in the former province of Mikawa. Its castle was the seat of the Matsudaira family, and Tokugawa Ieyasu was born there in 1543; after the death of Imagawa Yoshimoto in 1560 he returned to Okazaki and made it the base of his independent power. Under the Tokugawa shogunate it was a castle town on the Tokaido road, honoured as Ieyasu's birthplace.
