Olu of Warri

The Olu of Warri is the title of the king of the Itsekiri people of the western Niger Delta in Nigeria. The line traces its origin to Ginuwa, a Benin prince of the late 15th century, and its traditional seat is Ode-Itsekiri. After the death of Olu Akengbuwa in 1848 the throne stood vacant until the kingship was restored in 1936, and the Olu remains a traditional ruler today.
