Östergötland

Also known as East Gothland

Östergötland is a historical province in south-eastern Sweden, east of Lake Vättern, with Linköping and Norrköping as its main towns. One of the heartlands of the Geats, it holds the Rök runestone and Vadstena Abbey, founded by Saint Bridget. In the 12th and 13th centuries it was a power base of rival royal families in the making of the Swedish kingdom.
