Ouadane
Ouadane is an oasis town in the Adrar region of Mauritania, founded in the 12th century by Berber traders on the edge of the Sahara. It prospered on the caravan trade in salt, gold and dates, and the Portuguese set up a short-lived trading post there in the late 15th century. Its stone-built old town and manuscript libraries are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
