Padmini

Also known as Rani Padmini

Padmini, or Padmavati, is a legendary queen of Chittor, wife of King Ratnasimha, said to have committed jauhar with the women of the fort when Alauddin Khalji captured it in 1303. Her story first appears in Malik Muhammad Jayasi's poem Padmavat of 1540, more than two centuries after the siege, and was elaborated in Rajput bardic tradition. Most historians regard her as a literary rather than a historical figure.
