Pearl River
The Pearl River is the great river system of southern China, formed by the West, North and East rivers, which meet in a broad delta at Guangzhou before reaching the South China Sea. In ancient times its western branches linked the highlands of Guizhou with the lowlands of Nanyue. Its delta, which now includes Hong Kong and Macau, has been a centre of maritime trade since antiquity.
