Peninsular War
The Peninsular War was the conflict fought in Spain and Portugal against Napoleonic France, beginning in 1808. Spanish, Portuguese and British forces, together with guerrilla resistance, eventually drove out the French. The French occupation of Spain and the collapse of royal authority triggered the independence movements that dismantled the Spanish Empire in the Americas.
