Perak War
The Perak War was a conflict of 1875–1876 between Britain and Malay chiefs of Perak. It began after the first British Resident, J. W. W. Birch, was killed at Pasir Salak in November 1875 in resentment at his interference in local affairs. British and Indian troops crushed the resistance; the Maharaja Lela and others were hanged, Sultan Abdullah was exiled to the Seychelles, and British control of Perak was strengthened.
