Perateia
The Perateia (lands beyond the sea) was the Byzantine name for the Crimean dependencies of the Empire of Trebizond, including Cherson and the Gothic lands of the southern coast. They paid tribute to Trebizond in the early thirteenth century but were soon lost to Seljuk, Mongol and later Genoese power. The name survived in the title of the emperors of Trebizond: Emperor and Autocrat of all the East, the Iberians and the Perateia.
