7th century BCE · 7th century BCE

Perdiccas I is named by Herodotus as the founder of the Argead royal house of Macedon in the 7th century BCE. Herodotus tells how he and his brothers, exiles from Argos, came to Macedonia and won the kingship; later writers added earlier kings such as Caranus. His historicity is uncertain, but he heads the traditional king list of Macedon.
