Psamtik II

r. 595–589 BCE · 6th century BCE · Also known as Psammetichus II

Psamtik II was a pharaoh of the 26th Dynasty of Egypt, ruling from Sais. In 593 BCE he sent an army, including Greek and Carian mercenaries who left graffiti at Abu Simbel, deep into Nubia against the kingdom of Kush. The raid contributed to the shift of the Kushite centre southwards from Napata to Meroë.
