Qahtanites

Also known as Qahtan

The Qahtanites are the Arabs who traced their descent from the legendary ancestor Qahtan, associated with southern Arabia and Yemen. In the Umayyad period the Yemeni or Qahtani tribal faction was bitterly opposed to the northern Arab Qays. This rivalry paralysed the army of the Umayyad Caliphate in its final crisis.
