Quintus Servilius Caepio (consul 106 BCE)

2nd–1st century BCE · 1st century BCE

Quintus Servilius Caepio was a Roman general and consul in 106 BCE. He captured Tolosa (Toulouse) from the rebellious Volcae Tectosages and seized its temple treasure, the 'gold of Tolosa', which disappeared on its way to Rome. In 105 BCE his refusal to cooperate with the consul Gnaeus Mallius Maximus led to the disaster of Arausio against the Cimbri, and he was later condemned and went into exile.
