Person
Ramiro de Lorqua
Ramiro de Lorqua was a Spanish captain in the service of Cesare Borgia, who made him governor of the newly conquered Romagna in 1501. He restored order with great harshness, and in December 1502 Cesare had him arrested and executed, displaying his body in the main square of Cesena. Machiavelli, who witnessed the events, described the episode in The Prince as a lesson in how a ruler may use and then disown a cruel minister.
