House of Borgia

Also known as Borja family

The House of Borgia was a noble family of Valencian origin (Borja) that rose to great power in Renaissance Italy. It produced two popes, Callixtus III (1455–1458) and Alexander VI (1492–1503), whose children Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia became notorious in politics and legend. Cesare's conquests in the Romagna collapsed after his father's death in 1503, while a later member, Francis Borgia, became a Jesuit leader and saint.
