Rangpur (Assam)

Rangpur was a capital of the Ahom kingdom, on the outskirts of present-day Sivasagar in Assam, India, not to be confused with Rangpur in Bangladesh. Founded by Rudra Singha in the early eighteenth century, it was the main royal seat for much of that century, when kings built the Talatal Ghar palace, the Rang Ghar pavilion and nearby temples and tanks. Moamoria rebels seized it in 1769, and in 1794 Gaurinath Singha moved the capital to Jorhat.
