Rheingau
The Rheingau is a region of Hesse, Germany, on the north bank of the Rhine between Wiesbaden and Lorch, where the river flows westward below the Taunus hills. Held for centuries by the archbishops of Mainz and later part of the Duchy of Nassau, it is one of Germany's oldest wine regions, famous for its Riesling and for the Cistercian abbey of Eberbach.
